Golf team preparing for better season

Written by Shannon Miller, Feature Writer

Hopes are high for this years men’s golf team. With two promising freshmen, Nathan Ball and Brandon Capps, the team hopes to return to the regional competition this year.

“I think we’ll do pretty well. We’ve got a good chance to go to regionals and state,” junior David Capps said.

This small team has only ten players and only one senior, Jason Taylor. Juniors include Adrian Brinkley, Evan Phillips and Jordan Kitchen.

“The season is really good because we have some really powerhouse players. Our top four are really good. They are really working together. Jordan Kitchen is the butt of every joke. He’s the oddball, but we all have fun with it,” Taylor said.

This year’s biggest competition for the men is North, Pisgah, and Tuscola, the strongest teams in the conference. To succeed against these teams the team is working on its chemistry together.

“They work together fine, but they argue and bicker with each other,” first year coach Jay Young said. “But we can’t get better as a team unless we all pull for each other.”

The team’s sixth match of the season was their first loss in several matches.

“The loss was good in the respect that it helped to put their ego back in place,” Coach Young said. “It helped to let them see that there was still room to improve.”
